  • The surf in Panama is a year round resource with most swells on the Pacific Coast April through November. The penisula of the Pacific coast receives west swells year round. The Atlantic coast receives strong swell December through April.

Winds blow from the north during the dry months of December through April. The rest of the year winds are light and variable, with wet months in June through October.

    Punta Brava

The Punta Brava Lodge Complex comprises 30000 m2 and two modern beach lodges in an idyllic oceanfront setting. Best of all, we offer guests direct access to the breathtaking Santa Catalina Reef Break. An ideal "couples" getaway, the complex features a main 2-story lodge with 3 bedrooms, a kitchen and a restaurant/bar with upstairs and downstairs terraces. The main lounge area offers guests Direct TV and a private telephone-the only telephone in the area.
The second lodge building features five private cabanas, and each offers a private bathroom and air conditioning.
Each cabana--individually named in dedication to various islands known for their reef breaks-can sleep up to six (the actual number may be less, depending on total overall occupancy). Their comfortable size gives ample extra space for stowing surfboards, scuba gear, fishing tackle, and personal items.

The food prepared by our restaurant's resident chef features generous portions of international cuisine, and the bar offers a place to relax with panoramic views of the Pacific. A 1 1/2-hour drive to the provincial capital of Santiago will satisfy cravings for fast food (McDonald's, KFC, etc.), and the city also offers bars, discos, night clubs, a cinema, and even a Dairy Queen. There are two "pool vehicles" on hand to shuttle guests to and from Santiago or other nearby towns for the evening.

Adventure seekers have many options to choose from. Tours for surf seekers can be arranged by bike, boat or helicopter, on the mainland or to the nearby islands. Or you can enjoy sportfishing at Coiba Island, considered among the top 3 sportfishing sites in the world. Your spouse or "significant other," if not a surfer, may be interested skin in diving and get a close-up look at the primitive nearby islands and coral reef--the only one in the Pacific.

The reef is unique because it was formed millions of years ago in the Atlantic, and remained after the isthmus of Panama completely closed. Review your options and indicate your interest(s) in advance (use the Reservations & Booking page). We'll take care of the rest.

    Mainland surf tours to:

  • Punta Brava: Right and left breaks.
  • Punta Roca: Hollow left breaks.
  • San Pedrillo: Beach breaks, left and right.
  • Lopez Left: 1 1/2-hour boat ride, left breaks.
  • Surf excursions to secret spots:

    a. Powerful right reef break, great tubo.
    b. Right point.
    c. Several powerful breaks at this big island; also a top sportfishing site.
    d. Like the island, a beautiful break; but a swell is needed because the surf area is on the inside, fronting the coast.
    e. Big and powerful right reef break; for extreme and experienced surfers only.
    f. Silva de Afuera:Big left and right breaks.
